I’m gonna be somebody…

I’m fairly certain I’m not the only person who’d like to make a name for themsleves. What do the kids call that? Oh yeah! “Being somebody”. Getting our 15+ minutes is the American Dream. A universal dream though, is finding that one person that sees you above all others. I’m not alone when I say this, I’d rather “Be Somebody” to someone I can make a REAL connection with, than being someone to a bunch of strangers that follow me on IG. (Although YaBoi Rice wouldn’t mind the follow y’all 😉 lol)

FriendGroup, through an oldie but a goodie “Somebody 2 U” takes us through his own story of thinking he could be that someone to somebody. Using the metaphor of Being Someone, to set us up to tell us his desire to “Be Somebody… or at least to [them]”. Drawn in by the soft guitar and chimes, then taken into his pop driven production, we’re taken on a ride, learning how excited he is over this person,

“You’re name is on my list of favorite things”

his willingness to keep hope alive,

“I don’t know why it matters, if the future isn’t bright,

I’m scared to death but its a pattern, because I’m still alive”

and then gives us an opportunity during an almost 24 second musical break (1:54 marker) for us to reflect on our own story of that someone we wish we could be that somebody for before he builds up to an epic conclusion where you’ll hear some high notes to send you off right.

This dude is going to Be Somebody someday, but in more the “somebody big” sense instead of the “somebody you used to know” way. Ya Dig!
