Friendgroup Album Review

Friendgroup is bringing back all the nostalgia from your punk/pop rock days. Hailing from the mountains of Colorado, Friendgroup sprouted roots in the Nashville music scene. Don’t let the name fool you. Friendgroup is actually composed of just one musical genius, Brian Wight. Friendgroup was built behind the idea that the person creating the music and the music itself should be completely separate from one another. “ I wanted to make a band that if they existed, they would be my favorite band” Brian commented. Influenced by Ariana Grande, My Chemical Romance, Owl City and Paramore, Friendgroup is the perfect cocktail of pop and rock blends that will remind you of hot, summer nights in high school when you were out past curfew and up to no good. So jump in and check out this Friendgroup Album Review.

The Project That Started It All

Brian started working on his first project in 2017, “To Be Loved”, a 7-track album that introduced Nashville to Friendgroup. “To Be Loved” was Friendgroup’s response to heartbreak. Brian discussed to me what the project really meant to him. “It really opened my eyes to the desire of just wanting to be loved or chosen. Because who am I if I’m not loved, who am I without the love of other people”, Brian described an all too familiar feeling of wanting to be accepted. Shortly after this release, Brian had an itch to keep throwing things at the door until it opened. He shortly began his next project, “Feel a Thing!”.

You Should “Feel a Thing” after listening to this!

Friendgroup’s most recent release, Feel a Thing!, dropped this past May. Being referenced to Panic at The Disco, 888 and Blink- 182, Friendgroup is nostalgia at its finest and symbolic of the music you would jam to with your friends on a Friday night. LFK and Cry Like You Mean It are just a few of many tracks on this album that have a life of their own, with catchy hooks that will reel you in and take you back to Ocean Avenue.
