Alicia Michilli is a Soul/R&B artist with humungous amounts of personality behind a shy demeanor.  She adds an interesting, unique flavor to Nashville’s indie music scene.  After releasing her first EP in February of 2015, Michilli made her nation-wide debut with an impressive run on America’s Got Talent.  During her audition, she delivered a house-shaking rendition of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind”.  Then, quietly thanks a crowd who have completely left their seats in applause.

Sure, she was a little nervous, but that didn’t stop her from bringing down the house.  It certainly didn’t stop her hilarious interview here at Nashville Unsigned.Alicia Michilli and Nashville's indie music scene

Growing up in Detroit Michigan, Michilli fell in love with music at an early age an infused those Motown roots into her style. Influences such as Motown’s Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday are prevalent in her sound.  She even has a splash of Elvis to thank for her inspiration, as she explained in an interview with America’s Got Talent.  “Growing up, my dad used to sing me lullabies, and we’d listen to Elvis or random country music while we were cleaning the house.  I think that’s why I kind of gravitated towards music.”

“Hearbeat” & Nashville’s Indie Music Scene

“Heartbeat” is one of her soulful singles that’s a fun, groovy song.  That feel-good, Motown flavor is strewn throughout the song.  Along with her powerful voice, the track has a vintage flavor that feels like that golden era of music.  It’s a great addition to Nashville’s indie music scene because it brings such diversity.  It’s retro, catchy and reminds me of happy scenes from 90’s movies.
