Meet Bre Kennedy. Bre Kennedy is a powerhouse vocalist with a raspy, edge to her artist image that doesn’t exactly fit neatly inside a 4×4 box. And that is exactly why she is our featured artist of the week!

Bre is a “one of a kind” type of singer/songwriter that breathes “Legend”. Her music mirrors a mirage that is beautifully out of focus. Fiery rock vocals similar to Janis Joplin mixed with some sassy Sheryl Crow vibes, Bre Kennedy effortlessly taps into a well of talent. The kind of talent that can’t and shouldn’t be categorized by a specific genre because of its need to stay what it is: a raw and beautiful mess. Hints of pop, rock and soulful sounds ooze from her music.

“Trouble On My Mind”

There is something beautiful about pure honesty when it comes to human emotions. It’s like “Hey, I’m just as messed up and imperfect as you are, and I’m dealing with hardships too”.  Listening to her newest single for the first time, I could feel these troubles that Bre was singing about and the weight she was carrying. I felt as if she was talking to me. Like I knew her story. This is the power a great songwriter has. The ability to speak to and comfort people through their music. I could understand Bre Kennedy because I’ve been to the place she sings of. Dealing with similar anxieties.

Bre Kennedy is Keeping It Really Real

Bre Kennedy bleeds brutal truth in newest single Trouble On My Mind. “Today I woke up fighting tears”, Bre starts off the song with pure honesty that elicits a feeling of sorrow. This is a beautiful ballad about going through tough shit. Something Bre doesn’t sugar coat.“You say I’ll be okay, but it kind of feels like dying” Bre continues to paint a picture of her struggle.

The edginess of Bre’s emotionally charged, raspy vocals is pretty symbolic of how life isn’t always great and how it can really weigh you down at times. Moving to Nashville with her guitar and a dream like many do. Bre touches on doing something that is terrifying and battling the anxieties of change. As a survivor of these anxieties that I faced after moving from Texas to Tennessee with my car filled with everything I call “mine”, this was easy to relate to.
