Paul McDonald Article

You may know the soulful Paul McDonald by his signature, raspy tone, elastic vocal range, and incredible heart wrenching lyric. But you also probably know Paul McDonald through the insane media attention received by the likes of Rolling Stone, MTV, Billboard, and many more. Not to mention, Paul McDonald’s song, All I’ve Ever Needed, was featured on The Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack and has been streamed over 3 million times!! Sharing stages with artists like Stevie Wonder, Zac Brown, and Father John Misty, it’s easy to see why Paul has developed so much buzz. This indie rock prince is an incredible musician, and we couldn’t be happier to share his latest happenings!

THE Paul McDonald has proved his talent on numerous occasions. A success story painted with hard work and perseverance. So we’re going to start from the beginning.

Once upon a time, in a land not too far away (well give or take 15 miles), Paul found himself in the heart of East Nashville, after undergoing some hardships in LA. As he was working on his upcoming album, Modern Hearts, Paul gained a newfound confidence in himself and in his music that reflects in the delivery . Paul claims the record has saved his life. As a testament to his character and true passions, Paul states how “for an artist, there’s no better feeling than sharing emotions and helping people find strength and clarity through your music. That’s the real prize”.

Modern Hearts, The Breakup Album of 2018

It’s always special when an artist shares part of their heart with you through their music. Mr. McDonald clearly has a talent for hitting the listeners with music that speaks to the heart. It in fact may break your heart when you listen to the detailed lyrics. But don’t worry, his soulful and forgiving tone will piece you back together again. Modern Hearts is being released in early 2018, and it’s safe to say we are more than PUMPED for it. So far, we’ve been teased with 3 singles from the album thus far. Predictions say that this album will be the breakup anthem of 2018. A tough album for the faint of hearts, as it’s going to be a heart-wrencher, but religiously healing at the same time.

In a recent study, it was stated that over 85% of dating ends in breakups. Shocked? Well, most people, including myself, turn to music as their source of healing and rebuilding. It seems as if Paul McDonald has gracefully tapped into this unfortunate but common part of life, offering us, some solace and piece of mind. Because remember, you aren’t alone in your struggles.

Who needs the love doctor when you have Paul McDonald?

Three teaser singles have been released so far from Paul’s upcoming record, Modern Hearts, and we’re here to spill the beans. The newest release is New Lovers, and it has a church choir, full-body sound that will bring you to your knees. It’s beautiful and soulful, and accurately nails the feeling of new love and the sweet, but vulnerable honeymoon phase of a growing relationship. Paul sings about wanting to get high off of that feeling. Because who wouldn’t? Paul sings, “For the first time in a long time, I’m feeling alright”, breathing some brutal truth through this lyrics. Give me “Something different, something better, something real this time”. PREACH PAUL PREACH.

Hold On

Has the same soulful sound as New Lovers, but speaks to a different phase of being in a relationship. More upbeat, this track touches on the post-breakup spot where sorrow is replaced by anger. The single paints an ugly portrait of “a high heel drama queen drop out, smoking weed” that seems to have done Paul wrong. Not to mention, it’s a fun jam to dance to, and Paul’s vocal elasticity is highlighted throughout.

Call On Me

Is a standout track that is slow, rhythm heavy, and soulful. The chorus hooks you immediately, and the heavens seem to open up as Paul sings, “I can be all you need”. While the chorus is more soulful and pop oriented, the first and second verses are darker, incorporating a funk, groove vibe. This track dives more into modern dating in the digital era. So diverse and full of life, this track is intriguing to anyone who likes when genres seem to disappear. So far, the album already touches on very familiar and relevant aspects of modern dating.

Nashville Unsigned can’t get enough and are itching for more!
