Sean C Kennedy Releases His Newest EP “Can We Go Driving” – NU Review

We know, we know, we are hitting you with an absurd about of Sean C Kennedy content, but this is to catch anyone up-to-speed before his new release this Friday.

The EP

After slaying a calculated, slow roll out on each single as of August of 2019, Sean released his new EP “Can We Go Driving” on January 31, 2020. Titled after his last single to roll out in tandem with the EP. A modern-day, and quite creative roll out strategy in the digital age. “Can We Go Driving” is an EP that covers love, passions, freedom, and harsh realities. Kennedy delivers an emotional EP that takes you on this mellow melodic journey that has the of tugging on each heart string. Let’s dive into each song before you dive into the EP.

The Songs

“Can We Go Driving”

Ironically enough this feel-good single feels like it was actually made to specifically listen to while driving. I’m not sure about you all, but in this quarantine driving is about all I do. A place to go to get back to your mind. Sometimes you just need your best friend in your passenger seat, saying nothing, feeling everything. Sean’s story seems to talk about a love back home that he just wants to enjoy life with when he’s home.

“Guilty”

A simple song about this head-over-heels type of love for someone. Almost as if it’s uncontrollable. We’ve all experienced the type of love that’s all encompassing. Sean pours his soul out to the world, exposing his full vulnerability to love and loving hard. Assuming all responsibility, in the most clever of ways, for the depths of this love. And we aren’t sure about you guys but we feel if you pull out Sean’s voice, we could see this being a country hit.

“Fr333”

Let’s first talk about how clever it is to have three 3’s in the title, and repeating “Free” 3 times in the chorus. Smart! This song hit hard for me specifically. I’m a firm believer in walking through life seeing reality instead of the false things our media tries to sell or tell us. Sean skates through this song asking for him and his love to see reality and be free from the lies of life. Hits hard in a time like now! It’s important we all open our eyes and see what is REALLY happening in this world to be free from.

“I Won’t Let Go”

Ok, so I love all of these songs but if I had to select a favorite it would be this one. A simple, nuanced production skates you through these emotional lyrics that rattle the heart. But I tell ya, this Scottish John Mayer does an extra tug-of-war pull on your heart strings with that effortless falsetto. Lyrics, production, and vocals all merge together to create one of the most hypnotic, indulgent and well rounded love songs of 2020.
