Reel In The Music

Nicole Boggs & The Reel are off to a reel good start to 2019 in our opinions!! Wait. Wait. Now for some of you readers who are new to the Nicole Boggs train, let us introduce you! If you are unfamiliar with the five piece, the “cast of characters” for the band consists of singer-songwriter Nicole Boggs (The Four on Fox), guitarist Alex Kramer (Jason Derulo), songwriter & rhythm guitarist Sam Gyllenhaal, alongside bassist Loren D. Clark (LeAnn Rimes), and drummer Terence F. Clark (Robert Cray Band). Yeah they brought the Toon Squad together. No big deal.

Now back to your regularly scheduled article:

Nicole Boggs & The Reel are off to a reel good start to 2019 in our opinions!! After 3 years in the making, their new album ‘Scenes From Last Year’ is now blessing our ear holes. The 13 track album takes a more stylistic turn, blending more rock influences into the already finely tuned soul sound that engulfs you into a story you can’t stop listening to.

Experimenting In The (col)Lab

For some musicians it’s easy. Find a producer, you work great, music comes out great. Other times you have to search a bit harder. As this project was coming to fruition the band was searching for a producer, but decided to get some demos done. Who better to turn to that Nicole’s father, CJ Boggs. Father’s are awesome aren’t they! After working collaboratively to produce demos, the band enjoyed working collaboratively on the music this way.

With each member adding their flavor to the music, and Nicole digging into her songwriting bag to tell us stories, even personal ones about her mother, that leave you really feeling the music. Feeling her stories.

Cut It… Live

Now, if you think everyone is an “auto-tuned, 10 take pop-stars” these days and real talent is gone. Check it. During this process they actually cut about 70% of the whole record live on the floor. Lead Vocals TOO! Yeah, what you’re hearing is talent shining through on this record. Now yes, obviously it was mixed, but you can’t fake execution, and execute they did!

This whole record will take you on an up and down, back and forth, dynamic ride through all 54 minutes. As they say, and we’ll repeat, this is Reel Music for Reel People. Everyone will have a record they can enjoy or relate to on this record. So give it a listen and keep an eye out for the next Nicole Boggs & The Reel show!! We’ll keep you posted on that too 😉
