Ken (aka Kyle) Looking For His Barbie

Even in this swipe right culture we live in, let’s be honest all of us are just Barbie’s looking for their Ken. Or Ken’s looking for their Barbie Girl in this Barbie world (…life in plastic, it’s fantastic). Kyle Reynolds shows his hand that he too is like the rest of us in this latest single “The Real Thing”

As a millennial living through the middle of the Netflix & Chill reality we’re stuck in, it’s personally refreshing to hear a pop song with some substance behind it. And Kyle isn’t hiding behind metaphors and innuendos either. It’s strait forward. He let’s you know right away that he’s a different man. That he isn’t that 18 year old self anymore.

“I don’t need to get you naked just to call you back / I don’t need you in your makeup to make

me go damn / Cause I want the real thing, Not just the feeling”

The smooth verses and laid back acoustic guitar are followed with the “Pop-Drop” we’ve become accustomed to in todays pop. The synths in major key paired with driving bass, vocal chops, and Kyle Reynolds knack for catchy songwriting as a result creates a chorus that will stay stuck in your head for days. What I in particular enjoy about this song is how through the verses and the chorus Kyle maintains this cool, calm approach to his vocals. Staying in a comfortable window for his sound. Not aiming to sound to energetic to match the tone of the song.

Although, then the bridge comes. With the dynamic of the backing track dropping to a more mellow tone, it allows Kyle showcases his range, going into his falsetto bag as he sings “They say there’s fish in the sea (yeah, yeah yeah) / Maybe I want something to deep” two times before closing us out with an alternate chorus that leaves us wanting more.

Finally Kyle, you’ve hit us with yet another gem in your arsenal. S0, we’ll be listening on repeat and you have our full support your quest for real love. You keep keeping it real and you’ll find your fish swimming in the deep water soon enough!
