We know what you’re thinking, who is Jordan DePaul and what class did he come from? Well funny you should ask, he’s actually on a future class. But the release of his newest single “Save My Breath” got us all squirmy and we decided to give our take on his newest single. It was just too good to pass up!

Jordan first entered the scene in the Americana vein because of his singer songwriter vibes. Working with a Grammy award winning producer Mitch Dane, who has also produced a handful of our alumni. Jordan’s voice and lyrics could effortlessly move into any genre, really.

As Jordan evolved in his life while living in Nashville, obviously his music would evolved alongside. Moving more into Pop music, Jordan teamed up with his best friend, Ian Christian, to produce and co-write on his newest album, dropping soon.

Jordan is the type of artist that you cannot deny that he will have a successful career. Housing a voice you could spot on any station or playlist, that jaw dropping falsetto, we obviously can’t deny his genetic gifts, and his John Mayer badassery oozing everywhere. We would go as far to say that Jordan certainly has the X factor. So keep up with him, because this will move very quickly.

“Save My Breath,” second Single from Jordan’s forthcoming project, has a familiar premise for anyone who has been in a relationship. Jordan explains “Everyone has had a stubborn partner in their lifetime. I had the idea for “Save My Breath” after coming to the realization that I was never going to win an argument. When that person had time to sit back and think about it, they would end up seeing my side of things. So I concluded that I might as well just wait it out until they were ready to talk it out.”

What’s beautiful about this collaboration between Jordan and Ian Christian- Producer/Co-writer, is you get this epic trifecta of great lyrics, unique vocals with some JT falsetto and the type of production that forces your body to physically get into the music.

Production/ Writing

When we asked Jordan about the production process, H said, “We did a bunch of preproduction on “Save My Breath. So much so that the first day we were in the studio to record it. I was typing out the lyrics and thought to myself, “this could be better.” That’s when me and my producer, Ian Christian, rewrote a majority of the lyrics. I sang my keeper vocal later that evening.

To begin production on this song, and honestly the rest of the record, we started the production by me playing a scratch piano part and then I would sing my keep vocal over it. My reasoning for that was I knew what I wanted my voice to sound like; what inflections I wanted to use, along with my cadence and phrasing. That was most important to me, so I wanted the production to be based off of that.” Well our vote is, Ya nailed it!

Jordan said that recording “Save My Breath” was so much fun. “When you get to create something like that with your best friend, Ian Christian, there’s really no other feeling like it. I remember sitting in his studio while he created that 808 drum loop that’s throughout the track (which we changed probably 700 times). He just turned to me and we just began busting out laughing. You surprise yourself sometimes, and that’s when you know you’re onto something in my opinion.”

“Save My Breath” and “Still Miss You” are the two singles off of Jordan’s new project. Stay tuned for the full album release date.
