Class 14: Lackhoney

Today we roll out Lackhoney’s Magazine Cover for his Feature Week! The Mag Cover kicks off every Feature Week we do. Alongside it we want to introduce you to the man himself…

Bio

Aly Lackhoney Lakhani is not the typical hip-hop artist.  He was born to Indian and Pakistani parents. That meant as a child Lackhoney heard more Bollywood Hits and Muslim spiritual music than hip-hop. During his freshman year at Vanderbilt, Lackhoney forwent the college party scene and spent his weekends in the campus recording studio. Often walking back to his dorm at the same time others were going for morning jogs. Over the next three years Lackhoney built out a team of musicians. Those musicians comprise his band: The Hive. The Hive is made up of musicians Emmet Haden, Ben Pleasant, Noah Luna, Charlie Hackemer, and Knowledge Brown.

Along with building a team, Lackhoney soon saw a need for self-sufficiency in his own music. That led him to hone some new skills. Learning mixing, mastering, recording, and sound engineering. He now does the entirety of his current catalog along with production assistance from The Hive. The hard work paid off. Lackhoney released a stream of singles like “Rhapsodize,” “Bruce Lee,” and “Is That Love”. Along the way building a passionate following on campus and around Nashville. A clever lyricist and charismatic vocalist, Lackhoney is carving out a unique place in hip hop by embracing his own reality. From dealing with the racial prejudice he experiences as a Muslim. To the everyday ups and downs of life as a student. He details his truths in upcoming projects throughout 2020.

Lackhoney’s Latest: Sweets

Indian-American hip-hop artist/producer Aly Lakhani aka Lackhoney kicked off 2020 with the release of his highly anticipated mixtape and visual narrative “Sweets” back on February 14.

After releasing over 30 singles in 2019 alone, the rapper now presents what he calls his ‘musical business card’ with “Sweets”.  A 6-minute mixtape comprised of 12, 30 second songs married as one sonic/visual narrative. Showcasing Lackhoney’s various personas and diverse musical lexicon, the mixtape is: produced, written, recorded, arranged, mixed and mastered by Lackhoney. (Additional production from Ben Pleasant, Emmet Haden, and Jason Antwi).

We’ll be touching on that and more this week as we dive head first into Red Couch Interview tomorrow, articles, mini concerts, and on the new Rapid & Random w/ Rice Podcast all this week!!
