Bre Kennedy releases the first single off of her newest EP, “Slippin”

The raspy voiced songbird from Class 8, Bre Kennedy, releases her new single “Slippin” that is a soul stirring, self anthem about releasing expectations and embracing the lessons.

How We Met Bre

We caught wind of Bre at the vibiest dive bar in East Nashville called The 5 Spot. She was performing with some musicians we knew, and we had been getting “have you heard or checked out Bre Kennedy yet?”. That’s when we were finally saying to ourselves “Well we’ve got to see/ hear what the chatter is about”. Needless to say, 5 notes in, we were completely floored. Her unique voice, soul filling lyrics, and the passion and energy she exudes on stage is unparalleled. I remember watching her perform and thinking “We are watching something really special unfold right now”. Now you get a chance to experience this for yourself!

Slippin’

Bre Kennedy certainly has our vote as one of the most talented singer songwriters in the city. Wise beyond her years and a product of her experiences, Bre takes you on a feel-good journey with “Slippin'”. Bre said “I wrote this song after turning another year older. Realizing that no matter what I do, time passes by me faster and faster everyday.”

The moment you hit play on the brilliantly catchy Slippin’, the 80’s pop/ early 90’s indie rock influenced melody, and smooth-like-butter vocals from Bre, you’re locked in. Her gift exudes authenticity and full belief in what she’s saying, you can’t help to be completely engulfed by her presence. “Cause times slippin’ through my hands but I don’t want to say it, I kind of hate it, but it’s time, it’s fine.” The chorus of Slippin’ not only had me with it’s relateable lyrics but also had me dancing around celebrating freedom from my expectations. Expectations I subconsciously throw on success, relationships, life limiting what I’m actually feeling in the moment. What I love most about this sonic medication is it’s empowerment to stay present in those moments because if you don’t, you’ll miss them.

Also, just t point this out, I don’t believe it was a coincidence that Bre launched this power anthem on International Women’s Day.

The Badasses Behind The Music

You know what they say, “It takes a village”, and for that choir like ending, it certainly took JUST THAT. And speaking of which, let’s give that chorus and ending it’s proper moment of silence for it’s massiveness, harmonic magnetism, and those thought provoking, life altering lyrics of encouragement.

Slippin’  came together lyrically with Bre Kennedy and her writing partner-in-crime/ best friend, Hadley Kennary. Also co-written with the producer and melodic mastermind, Kyle Dreaden. And a huge shoutout to the multifaceted band/choir: Jake Finch, Matt Koziol, and Collin Pastore, you guys killed it!
