Mega Voice, Alicia Michilli, Drops New Album “Letters From The Edge” and We’re Smitten

She’ssssss Backkkkk! The mega voice, soulful princess from class 4, Alicia Michilli, just made the world a little better by releasing her newest album, Letters From The Edge. This old soul gave us vulnerability, control, passion, honesty and soul wrapped up in a the perfect package. Drawing light to the fact that Nashville represents so many genres outside of country music these days, and Alicia is holding down the jazz/soul movement.

Behind The Album- BTS

What an epic year for young starlit, Alicia Michilli. Landing one of the biggest tours of her career with  Keb Mo and Taj Mahal. And she, without question, held her own alongside some modern-day legends. Alicia so naturally lasso’ed each city with her stainless steel pipes and love-able personality that pulled in the audiences’ heart. But we honestly didn’t expect anything different. Alicia is such a gem to see live!

Letters from the Edge was unexpectedly expedited when Alicia got the call that she was going on tour.  So her team kicked into go mode and had the entire record tracked in 3 days. The entire process took about a week, and for a big band like Alicia’s, that is not an easy task. Something cool to know about the band, the horn players came in, making up their parts as they went along and totally slayed it. Talk about some true skills! Alicia opened up about the vulnerable place she got into while making the album. She said “I brought my Grandpa’s fireman’s pendant to hold while I sang “Back Down.” I almost couldn’t make it through singing it because it made my eyes all misty… Moose (Producer) was really sweet and patient.” Alicia’s grandfather was a captain of the Detroit fire dept. He was there during the riots in the 60’s and Alicia says “was a total badass that demanded respect, but in a loving and caring way.” Alicia ends the album with this powerful anthem of perseverance and resilience through pressing on in an circumstances. ” Keep on runnin’!”

When Abby and I were writing ‘Beg’ I had made a joke about the dude not being allowed to “play in my lady garden again” and then she told me to keep the lyric. Ha Ha! Now it’s a running joke for the rest of my life.” Beg is an upbeat single that hits you hard right out of the gates. Alicia’s soul is just oozing out of this delivery. So much sass and class forming the perfect combination of the bands expert execution and Alicia’s larger than life voice that’s wrapped up in so much personality. I envision Alicia pelvic thrusting at the end of the song accompanied with her “UUUHHHHHNNNN”. Alicia says “I had to do “the running man” dance almost the whole time while singing “Beg””. For me, any reason to do the running man is an acceptable reason.

What If I Told You was the single that stirs around in your soul with so much truths. What if we told a new love interest the entire truth about our flaws. What if we laid out the good, the bad and ugly, would you still love me? Alicia delivers this song from a place of experience. Stripping down the production to really get your heart in the pocket, alongside her voice. Such a heartfelt, emotional message.
“The Edge was written about my Dad. I had a rough patch before I got the call about the TajMo tour and was thinking about going back to school. He drove 10 hrs by himself to stay for the weekend and “carry me over the finish line”.
Also, Alicia credits her MaMa too for being such a huge supporter and lasso’ing the business beast of Alicia’s brand. It’s all about a team and having the strongest believers and supporters n your circles. When we interviewed Alicia about the album she just couldn’t stop raving about her team and their talents. Now what are you waiting for, go on an emotional journey with Letters From The Edge.
