BRE KENNEDY STEALS THE VAULT

Imagine, if you will for a moment, a dimly lit room. A lonely stage awaits a performance. Vintage clothing lines the walls and era based items are scattered about the room in a vibe rich part time venue. Clusters of individuals walk up the driveway from a spectrum of cliques. A smoking crowd is trading wit outside the door and crushing cigarettes under canvas shoes. Some polos are discussing Megan Barry’s transit proposal and industry heads are checking their watches. The multitude of characters await the stylings of Christiaan Smith and Bre Kennedy in East Nashville’s The Bowery Vault. And Nashville Unsigned has a camera holding it’s breath on a tripod in the front row.

Empty seats begin to disappear as the crowd files in the door and is greeted by New York tastemaker and show organizer Think Big Picture’s Janine Papio. The show is about to start and a humbly dressed Bre Kennedy tip toes onto the stage and tunes her guitar.

INSTANT COMMUNITY

The first notes fill the air and a hush falls over the room. A songwriter’s job is to unite, and Bre Kennedy feels like crazy glue. It’s not long before the room is transformed into an all-eyes-on-the-stage and every-lip-is-sealed showcase. The young siren shares her harsh realties with a shoulder to shoulder crowd. Empathy flourishes and hate is foreign. A prominent experience rises in the room and everyone latches on. We become one. The smokers, the rockers, the gamers and the yogis. The bankers and the mods, the feminists and fogies. Together. We are an orchestra of emotion and our conductor is guiding us with her wisdom and tone. Mission accomplished.

An investor in the crowd turns to me and says, “This girl could draw a tear from a glass eye.”

Well put, Sir. I totally agree.
