New Single “JEAN” (Ft. AV)

Teaming Up

Our very own Class 10 AV, who has been killing it in both Nashville & her hometown Chicago, teams up with Deverano; a Latin American recording artist native to Staten Island New York. Fusing modern day hip-hop production, R&B melodic vocality, and various other music elements, Deverano aims to break barriers by pioneering a new level of work ethic in the industry. Having linked up with Chi-Town raised, Nashville based singer songwriter AV over the internet a few years ago, the duo finally came together and articulated a call-and-response song entitled JEAN.

JEAN is the type of song that anyone would want to hear when facing a crisis as for whether or not the person they like is as interested at all in them as they are and vice versa. To myself diving into the song, I hear a story of two people thinking each other are their perfect match although they both are busy chasing their dreams, can’t see each other for up to years at a time (“Took a couple shots for every year we didn’t talk”), while holding onto deep rooted secrets they’ve been wanting to tell each other… but first they need to know if its real. If they can be the perfect “team” together. Can they trust one another with those secrets.

Love Me Some Symmetry (Did You Notice?)

I tip my hat to Deverano on this for a couple reasons, he killed it on the dynamic of this production. With the soft, smooth, tranquil synths drawing us in from the jump & driving trap drums adding a bounce that gets our head nodding, it’s hard to not find yourself swaying in your seat almost immediately.

Not to mention the beauty and genuine “hit sound” behind the songwriting & execution for both of these talented humans. Even upon first listen you can hear there is a story being told. Not just a song, but as I said before, a story. As someone who started off as a songwriter, that’s not what has me “Writer Geekin'” about the writing. What does is the subtleties. If you notice on both of Deverano’s 16 bar A/B section verses and 8 bar pre-chorus’ he is able to mimic the same syllable count, flow, and cadence on both. Creating a connection and continuity in his sections, which in my opinion: 1.) is one not as easy as it sounds to do, and 2.) is freaking awesome.

Love Me Some Subtleties (Did You Notice?)

AV

Even more subtle is the way he chose his rhyming words for the first verse: Well, Spell, Tell, Shell and for the second: Kill, Chill, Fulfill, Spill. See anything? All end in “LL” and yes, don’t all rhyme with each other “technically” but in all reality you slur Spill and Spell for example, and trust me, you’re good. That’s all before AV comes in on the hook and bridge to bless us with her bad self.

AV comes in already buzzing off her release of the Just Us music video and doesn’t disappoint with her performance on JEAN either. Hitting us with 16 bars of strait silky smooth sexiness on the chorus, you’re guaranteed to be singing (or at least humming the melody) by the second hook.

In conclusion, if you’ve ever dealt with having a crush on someone and you just aren’t sure if they feel the same way; this is your anthem. So go ahead and bump it! I did.

P.S – Just a tip from YaBoi Rice (aka me), if you like someone JUST GO FOR IT!! You got this. I have faith in you! YOLO! Carpe Diem!… and all the other phrases!
