De’Andre Davis, also known as 2Four, is bringing some top-notch modern-day hip-hop to the Nashville music scene. His new album Abstract gives listeners some deep insight into his project by blending genres and inserting pieces of himself into his rhymes. Being an introvert, 2Four was able to channel all of his personal emotions and turn it into art.

Abstract

If you have ever been to an art gallery, you have most likely encountered some abstract pieces that usually have multiple meanings. The person standing next to you probably didn’t see the same thing you saw. 2Four titled his new musical project Abstract for that very reason. “If my music can mean something different to everyone, mean something to them, then I’ve accomplished something”.

2Four powerfully describes his newest project as being “colorful, even dark at times”, as he uses his personal struggles to paint an abstract portrait of himself as an artist but more importantly as a person. Not one song is the same in terms of sound and genre overlaps, which is what makes Abstract a standout album. While Waves was intended to be a summertime, grill-out track, Too Much was intended to dive deep into the daily struggles of constant worry and anxiety that most people can relate to. Abstract blends together the abilities that 2Four has to genuinely feel the music in many different ways and allow is listeners to interpret the hidden meanings behind his verses. The young rapper explained to me, “I want to make my listeners think”. There’s something special about being able to connect to a song, especially on a deeper level.

The Importance of Complexity in Abstract

Of course, 2Four wants his listeners to feel his music and move with the verses. But if there is one takeaway from listening through Abstract, it’s that there is always more than one way to interpret something. 2Four perfectly puts it that people are quick to judge a book by its cover, but the book might be more complex than you think. “Every time we think things are bad, there’s an opportunity in disguise”, 2Four cleverly stated. 2Four took all of his pain and hardships and turned it into the complex musical project that is Abstract.

So get to thinkin’ my friends and take a listen!
