Think back to a time when you completely overindulged yourself on a really good meal, and you feel so content that you start to drift into a food coma. A similar phenomenon happens when you enjoy really good music. You can start to get so into what you’re listening to that you accidentally run a red light or realize it’s been thirty minutes, and you are still sitting in your car. Now, get ready to prepare your musical hunger because you might have to unbutton your pants for this one. If you think you’ve heard it all, ladies and gents, get ready to be impressed by the soulful bluesy, pop rhythms that are Texada!

Hayley McLean created this “musical vision” known as Texada that is absolutely mesmerizing. She is showing up everyone who has ever said one musician can’t do it all. Producer, writer, and instrumentalist, she is an inspiration. Through a looping system, Texada has mastered her live performances incorporating the keyboard, acoustic drums, and the guitar. Impossible to ignore, her super smooth vocals completely submerge you into a state of peaceful meditation. And this is not a musical experience you will want to snap out of!

Texada’s album ‘Blue’ that was released in February of 2016 raised some eyebrows as the track “All My Life” made it’s way onto both Canadian and US Spotify viral charts, gaining it over 2.8 million streams!! Perfectly titled, the album is filled with bluesy, soulful beats and sounds that have depth and dimension. A series of modern love songs, each track contains meaningful ‘tug at your heartstrings’ lyrics that cleverly break your heart, while making you fall more in love with Texada, one note at a time.

Everyone’s Catching the ’Blue’s

A personal favorite, “Close your eyes for this” is about losing yourself so deeply in someone, and it perfectly encapsulates the feeling. I also had to close my eyes while jamming out to this song because it was EPIC!!

A shift in tone, “Every Beat” is a heart-wrenchingly beautiful tune about someone you love not loving you back. The chorus is upbeat and has a retro sound that takes you back to the 80s. For a split second, I thought my heart was going to leave my chest while listening to it.

“Walking on the Moon” is out of this world (Ba dum chh). If Newton needed a soundtrack for his law of universal gravitation, this would be it. When I listen to this track, it reminds me of when I’m with someone I’m digging who captures my full attention and the rest of the world seems to disappear and time seems to stop.

Hands down, “All My Life” is the most diverse and unique track on the album. Mysteriously haunting, it switches from being super soulful to intensely rhythm heavy. Intense and honest, you will want to “run away” with the lyrics. Hayley starts off with, “All my life I’ve waited for you. Think I survived so I could know you”. Hitting you right in the feels, Texada does a killer job of making you feel and experience every pain or happiness caused by love.

A musician with the innate ability to pour every ounce of emotion into their music is INCREDIBLY powerful and is a force to be reckoned with. While your ears will open wide to listen to Texada, you’re going to “wanna close your eyes for this” because you’re probably “gonna get high from this” as the music is “fireworks in the sky”, and will leave you hypnotized.

Texada is a true talent, and I think I speak for everyone when I say I’m PUMPED to hear more of her music as she continues to push the envelope!

Check out her “Police” version of “Walking On The Moon”. This song is a remix – produced, performed, shot and edited by Texada (Are you surprised?!): https://youtu.be/LkN2cVh71k0

  1. I have been a fan since her days playing guitar for Canadian artist Chad Brownlee. She is a wicked player and a truly wonderful artist. Wishing her much success from London, Canada.
