SONGWRITING COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND SINGER SHOT AT 5 POINTS

Nashville’s songwriting community has rallied behind Matt Lovell, a songwriter shot in the chest outside of the Red Door Saloon in East Nashville earlier this year. The incident was the result of a car jacking that took place in Nashville’s popular “5 Points” area. The singer sat down with Nashville Unsigned to tell us about how the shooting has changed his life. I first learned of Matt’s story through a common friend and musician, Charlie Lowell (Jars of Clay). Straightaway, I wanted to learn more about the frightening events that took place here on the sidewalks of the town I call home. The fear of being without that person ironically ends up being the demise of the relationship. SAWYER’s depth in their songwriting warrants the title of Old Souls. The cleverly written pop song with thought provoking lyrics sits high on the charts of our...

Karim continues to disrupt Nashville’s hip hop scene with his honest and vulnerable lyrics. Hailing from Baghdad, Karim moved to America at the age of 6 becoming a first generation immigrant. Struggling with a language barrier, he found himself trapping his emotions. It wasn’t until he fell into an infatuation with his pen and pad, that he started utilizing poetry as a form of healing. Fun fact: Karim started writing poetry years before he ever wrote his first rap song, which btw was at work (IHOP) on his order pad.  GROW...
