Phangs and Nashville’s indie pop music

First of all, Nashville’s indie pop music is like a hidden gem in this city.  Sure, we’re known as Music City, but it’s far too often “Country Music City”.  Though we love our country friends, the truth is that this city is incredibly diverse in music talent. Phangs, otherwise known as Jake Germany, is a fantastic example of what else Nashville has to offer.Phangs Nashville Indie Pop Music

As Phangs, Germany set out to bring a “dream pop notion” to life, and that is great way to describe his sound.  Nostalgia from the early nineties sprouted the creative concept behind this project, and the past can often seem like a dream.  For reasons I can’t explain, there’s just something about synthesizers that reflect this concept perfectly.  Along with a high-tempo beat, Phangs takes you places with these synths.

The best way to describe his sound is that it’s intelligent dance music mixed with retro synth pop.  In the same creative vain as Odesza or Noir, he leads this sound with catchy, pop-style vocals.  The result is a unique flavor to the synth pop genre.  There is so much creativity within Nashville’s indie pop music scene, and Phangs’ style really breaks free from the gritty rock or country that people normally know us by.

“Cul De Sac”

Phangs Nashville Unsigned blogPhangs’ most recent release is “Cul De Sac”, an extremely catchy jam that shows off his vibe perfectly.  The song has an upbeat rhythm with those classic 80’s and 90’s pop elements.  The song’s name creates a setting that brings you back to that time.  Most of all, this nostalgia is something I’ve always loved about this genre, and Phangs uses it creatively.
